Hey everyone, I’m from ViralBulletin, and today I’m excited to show you how to write a blog post from start to finish.
First things first, have you ever written a blog post before? If you have, drop a “yes” in the comments. If not, comment “no.” Whether you’re a blogging pro or just starting out, I’d love to hear from you. But no matter your experience, I’m going to share a foolproof formula that I use on my blog. It works for all kinds of blogs—personal, business, B2B, B2C—you name it. Seriously, it’s the best formula out there.
Step 1: Start with an Eye-Catching Title
Don’t even think about writing your blog post until you have the perfect title. Did you know that eight out of ten people will read your headline, but only two will read the rest? No matter how great your content is, if your headline doesn’t grab attention, your post won’t get read. It all starts with a killer title.
Need some inspiration? Head to the magazine section of your local grocery store. Those catchy titles like “Lose Weight in 30 Days” or “How to Shed Five Pounds Fast!” are designed to grab attention. That’s exactly what you need for your blog post titles. I often stick with “How To” and list-based titles because they work wonders.
Create a few different title options and get feedback from friends to choose the best one.
Step 2: Hook Readers with Your Introduction
Your introduction needs to grab readers right away. For example, I might start with, “Do you want the formula that helps me get at least 37,000 visitors per blog post?” This kind of statement piques curiosity and encourages people to read on.
In your intro, also give a quick overview of what you’ll cover in the post. This helps set expectations and keeps readers interested.
Step 3: Organize the Body with Subheadings
The body of your post should be easy to skim. Use subheadings to break up your content, and keep paragraphs to around five to six lines max. This makes your post more readable.
Also, make sure to link to other credible sources. It shows that you’ve done your homework and adds value to your readers. Plus, it boosts your credibility.
Step 4: Wrap Up with a Conclusion and a Question
Finish your post with a conclusion that summarizes everything you’ve talked about. End with a question to encourage comments and engagement. When readers interact with your post, they’re more likely to become leads or customers.
Many people scroll down to read the conclusion first, so make sure it’s clear and engaging. Just label it “Conclusion”—no need to get fancy.
Bonus Tip: Make Connections by Linking to Others
Linking to other sites not only adds value to your content but also flatters the people you’re linking to. They might even share your post with their audience. When you link to someone, send them a friendly email to let them know. Something like, “Hey [Name], I’m a huge fan of your work and mentioned you in my latest blog post. Check it out here. Cheers, [Your Name]. P.S. If you shared it, it would make my day.”
